Whats up 14.75% year to date with low correlation towards US equity performance? Well FMG’s MENA Fund is (Middle East & North Africa) after monster returns of over 29%, 41% and 39% in 2003/4/5 the fund retraced just under 9% in 2006 before returning back to its winning ways this year.

The regions GDP is expected to grow by over 6% with estimated EPS growth of around 20% for the year 2007. With current PE’s now around 14x 2007 range, many would consider markets to be relatively inexpensive by emerging markets standards. Did you know that the Arab markets constitute at least 20% of the worlds emerging markets capitalization?

Volatility……. Are you protected ??
Wednesday 25th July, 2007

Opinions seem to suggest that Equity markets are looking toppish now meaning that Emerging Markets equities are likely to be more at risk than developed markets given their higher valuations.  Bonds appear to be range trading in response to credit market developments and global inflation/growth data.  The dollar’s slip towards fresh lows vs. EUR and GBP may trigger a slight sympathy rally.  Commodity prices appear to be remaining in a secular uptrend, assisted by Emerging Markets growth momentum. Long-term positive, but some short-term profit-taking expected.  Precious metals still look attractive given dollar and credit market concerns.  Residential property markets continue to look stretched, with interest leaning towards commercial office space in Asia from a relative valuation perspective.

Shareholders in much fancied GOOGLE (NASD:GOOG) better brace themselves for todays open in the US markets today after the internet giants announced their slowest growth for a quarter since going public in 2004. The price tumbled in after hours trading by over $39 a share or 7.1%

In contrast IBM (NYSE:IBM) shareholders were toasting the news of record quarter results which propelled the stock price up over 4.3%. Big Blue went on to help the Dow Jones close above 14,000 for the first time and finished the day themselves on a 6 year high - up now 55% in the last year.

Yesterday alone, $100,000 in Google would now be worth $92,900 vs $104,300 if you chose to buy IBM.

How did I fare? - Well you’ll just have to logon to find out!!

by Mark

If I had a pound for every moan or groan I heard from the people I meet about their banking relationships… well lets just say I’d be considerably better off!

It’s a shame that a lot of people view traditional retail banking as more a ‘necessity’ than a ‘nicety’. So, I’d like to open up a discussion where you can air your opinions and experiences when it comes to day to day banking. I’m going to put forward basic information on relationships we enjoy and can vouch for, as after all it is our job to introduce to you banking partners that reflect positively on ourselves.

I’ll start with Standard Bank and their offshore banking and investment services. They have a presence in 39 countries, cover all the major offshore jurisdictions and are extremely pleasant to deal with in person and on the web!

Gold - If your not involved, WHY ??
Friday 13th July, 2007

by Mark

For those that already know me - it will come as no surprise that I want to document my feelings towards investments into Gold.  Up fractionally today at $655 per ounce there are an increasing amount of ways to add Gold to your portfolio. If you didn’t get involved at $300, $400, $500, or $600… I’d like to share some ideas with you that can help show you a return as we approach $700.

I’ll kick start by showing you a pure play on Gold courtesy of Castlestone Management. The Aliquot Gold Bullion Fund gives you direct exposure to Gold held in custody by HSBC. Without using futures, option, warrants, equities or leverage this is a clean and simple way to diversify and hedge against your equity and bond holdings. The fund has an impressive annualized returns since inception of 13.54%

Do you qualify for an Offshore Mortgage ??
Wednesday 11th July, 2007

Whether you are a seasoned property investor or a first time buyer - do you honestly shop offshore and compare mortgage rates with those offered by your domestic banks? The reason I ask is that most expatriates don’t think twice when presented with an Offshore vs Onshore investment solutions. Why doesn’t this enthusiasm transfer onto the borrowing side?

It is rare to encounter prospects that are aware of the options available to them once they have decided to invest in property. I would contribute this partly down to those responsible for passing on the information. So, for those that perhaps want to assess their options before stepping forward ahead of one of lifes ‘Major Expenses’, I’d like to recommend you consult directly with Lloyds TSB.  www.lloydstsb-offshore.com

Whats in it for us? Simply the recognition that we do provide a full-service to our clients that includes professional referral relationships. Maybe this goes some way towards answering why isn’t this information doesn’t readily reach the right people?
